ON MY PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING
BACKGROUND & PHILOSOPHY
Did you know that the average life span of the "career" of most personal trainers is LESS than 5 years? That's only one of the major differences between me,"MJ" & all of the other trainers out there. I have been a full-time personal trainer for nearly 20 years! This is a field I have chosen as a lifetime career. .and I am NOT an athlete .Never have been.
I was a "foo-foo" girly-girl growing up. "Don't get dirty & dress pretty." However, due to cumulative bodily injuries and accidents plus work-related bodily stresses (I was in the bar/restaurant business for many years before embarking on my present business). I was in great pain for most of my 20's, particularly in my low back & knees. I even had three separate back braces depending on my level of pain for that day.
As my father was a family doctor, my solutions were always pill & brace oriented. Eventually my doctors told me that surgery was eminent. I chose to change my attitude & started exercising instead. As I exercised,
the first thing that happened was a better attitude. The mood elevation started almost immediately. within the first few weeks. Then, my back got better! Much better!
So, as my back improved, I threw out all of the muscle relaxants & pain-killers. (I was up to taking twice the prescribed amount.) And very soon afterward, pitched the back braces as well.
I knew that there must be others out there who felt like I did - who didn't want to run a marathon or become a tennis star or be a body builder - people like me who just wanted to FEEL better and have their body serve them well. .with the SIDE benefit of have their bodies look better.
That was a new concept in those early days. having good looks as a secondary goal to having the body work well.
How many trainers have you heard say: "I don't 'love' working out but I do love the results of a good, compact work-out.
to feel good & pain-free."?????? What a motivation.to stay out of pain & have energy to do what I wanted OUTSIDE of the gym.
So, I don't do "boot camps" - there are things you can do TO your body to get results or things you can do FOR your body. My job, as I see it, is to guide you on a path so that you can learn how to serve your body without hating the process.
